SHORT BOOK DESCRIPTION:

Many years have passed since civilization's brush with apocalypse. The world's greatest threats have all been silenced. There is no anger, no hatred, no war. There is only perfect peace... and fear. But a terrible secret has been closely guarded for centuries: Every single soul walking the earth, though in appearance totally normal, is actually dead, long ago genetically stripped of true humanity.

Fleeing pursuit, with only moments to live, a young man named Rom stumbles into possession of a vial of blood and a piece of cryptic writing. When consumed, the blood will bring him back to life. When decoded, the message will lead him on a perilous journey that will require him to abandon everything he has ever known and awaken humanity to the transforming power of true life and love.

But the blood will also resurrect hatred, ambition, and greed.

Set in a terrifying, medieval future, where grim pageantry masks death, this tale of dark desires and staggering stakes peels back the layers of the heart for all who dare to take the ride.

My thoughts:
'Forbidden' started out great and just continued to get better as the story went on! I'm glad I read 'The Keeper' before I started 'Forbidden' (it helped me understand some aspects of the story better).

While I haven't read any books by Tosca Lee (except for 'The Keeper' which is a short prequel to 'Forbidden'), I've read many books by Ted Dekker and enjoyed most (if not all) of them!

Picturing a world without all emotions except fear is very strange and hard to imagine. I was caught up in the drama, suspense, and even mystery in the story. The characters were great and some of my favorites were - Rom, Avra, Triphon, and Feyn.

Ted & Tosca wrote this book very well and I came to really care about the characters and when a certain thing happened (not going to say what) I found it sad. While there are a couple of things in 'Forbidden' that are best suited for mature audiences - I personally didn't have a problem with reading it. But be warned, there is violence in 'Forbidden' that some might find disturbing.

In my opinion this is another winner from Ted Dekker & Tosca Lee! 'Forbidden' ends with such a cliff-hanger that I'm really wondering what is going to happen next!!! I am anxiously awaiting the next book in 'The Book of Mortals' series - 'Mortal'!

I definitely recommend 'Forbidden' if you enjoy a great thriller, but be prepared for an ending that leaves you hanging and waiting for the next book in the series!

  1. Normally I am a HUGE ed Dekker fan!!! I own most of his books!
But I was leery of this one because It got mixed reviews and a friend of mine who also likes Dekker said he didn't care for it.
I am glad to read your positive review! Maybe I should reconsider.

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. ~ Philippians 4:8
