One-Year Blogoversary Celebration: Day Three - DiAnn Mills

Welcome to Christian Bookshelf Reviews, DiAnn! Thank you for celebrating my one-year blogoversary with me!

Thank you for allowing me to be a guest on your blog. I look forward to getting to know your readers.

When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?

I was in the second grade! My first book was written on a Big-Chief notebook, and it was a western. The desire to write stayed with me for years, but I didn't have the courage to take serious steps forward. I worked a little in learning the craft, but then I'd toss my efforts for fear someone might read them. When I was in my 40s, my husband challenged me to quit my job and write a book. I took him up on it, and my first book was released two years later.

What would you say is your most interesting writing quirk?

I suppose it's the desire to dive into the psychological workings of my characters. I want to know what makes them tick, motivates them into action. I'm not content with simply answers; I want to know the good, bad, and the ugly. I'm disciplined, so once I start a new writing project, it's finished before the due date.

The Fire in Ember: A NovelWhat was one of the most surprising things you learned in creating your books?

That it was hard work! I'd write, rewrite, and rewrite some more.

How many books have you written? Which is your favorite?

I've written 55 books, of which some are novellas. Do I have a favorite? That's like asking which one of my sons is my favorite. They all are! Each character's journey left an impression on my heart. I still think about them and hope they are happy and healthy and safe.

What do you like to do when you're not writing?

I love to read, cook, and garden. And did I mention my three grandchildren? Oh my, that's when life is grand.
Breach of Trust (Call of Duty, #1)

Do you read books, if so, what is your favorite genre to read?

Suspense and romantic suspense. I love the thrill of a ticking clock. I also read nonfiction about my faith and writing how-to books.

Do you have a favorite time of year?

Autumn! Summer is over and we're gearing up for the holidays. I love green, orange, and gold. I am an autumn, so not only does my closet reflect those colors but also my home.

Is there a place you'd like to visit, but haven't yet?

Italy. I love the history, architecture, culture, and the land.

Do you have a favorite Bible verse?

Yes! Jeremiah 20:9  But if I say, “I will not mention his word or speak anymore in his name,” his word is in my heart like a fire, a fire shut up in my bones. I am weary of holding it in; indeed, I cannot.

Are you currently working on any new novels?

I'm working on the second book of a romantic suspense series - Crime Scene: Houston. I'm writing this series based on solved cold cases from Houston's FBI. Very fun!

  1. I wrote a book in a spiral bound notebook in middle school, however the desire to write did not stay with me. I am glad it stayed with you DiAnn! I really enjoy your books and look forward to reading Attracted to Fire.

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. ~ Philippians 4:8
