One-Year Blogoversary Celebration: Day Five - Colleen Coble

Welcome to Christian Bookshelf Reviews, Colleen! Thank you so much for celebrating my blog's one-year blogoversary with me!

Thanks for having me, Melanie, and congratulations!

Would you tell us a little about yourself?

I am a lifetime Hoosier with 2 grown children and a granddaughter we are crazy about. She's 3. My husband of 40 years retired a year ago, but I love writing and don't ever plan to stop. We love travel because I get such great ideas for novels!

When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?

I was in first grade and wrote a story about a horse that had twin colts. The teacher praised the story and the seed was planted then. My dream was to have a book in the library. :) God has done so much more than I ever imagined!

What would you say is your most interesting writing quirk?

I LOVE edits. Most writers hate them but it's a good day when those come in for me. I finally have some help to reach the vision I have for the book.

What was one of the most surprising things you learned in creating your books?

I'd always heard that characters can take over the story, and by golly, that's true. I can be writing along with a plan for a chapter and the character suddenly takes me in an entirely new direction. Love that!

How many books have you written? Which is your favorite?

43 but I can't say which is my favorite. That's like asking me which child is my favorite. :)

What do you like to do when you're not writing?

I love spending time with our granddaughter. It's so fun to see life through the eyes of a child again. And we love to travel as a family.

Do you read books, if so, what is your favorite genre to read?

I always have a book in my hand. My favorite genre is romantic suspense--which is why I write it!

Do you have a favorite song and/or movie?

I love An Officer and a Gentleman. I love the character arc in that movie.

Is there a place you'd like to visit, but haven't yet?

Australia! It's my dream trip. I've been fascinated by Australia since I was a teenager. Some day. . .

Do you have a favorite Bible verse?

Romans 8:28. I became a Christian following a tragic auto accident that killed a teenager. The boys had been drinking and hit black ice then struck us head on. At the time I couldn't see anything good in that terrible night, but a year later, eleven people had come to know Jesus because of it.

Which do you prefer - ice cream or cake?

Ice cream! But it must have chocolate in it. Chocolate almond is the bomb. :)

I loved your book 'Abomination' - it's one of my favorite books! Do you plan on writing another book with some of the same characters?

I loved that story too. There are no plans for another book with Eve and Nick in it but Bree, Kade and Samson appear again in Cry in the Night and also play a major role in the upcoming Tidewater Inn.

Are you currently working on any new novels?

Always! I just finished Tidewater Inn, and I'm about to plunge into the 2nd book in the Hope Beach series, Rosemary Cottage.

Where can we find you on the web?

Thanks for having me!

  31. Great interview with Colleen! I was especially touched by her answer about her favorite
bible verse being Romans 8:28 and her story of coming to Christ and essentially living out that verse in that tough situation. I know it must have been so hard, but thanks for sharing- very impactful!

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. ~ Philippians 4:8
