Review: Forget Me Not by Amber Stokes

Forget Me Not (The Heart's Spring) by Amber Stokes
Seasons of a Story / 2014
  Find on: Amazon, Goodreads

About the book:
Old hurts, new betrayals, and a love that survives them all...

Summer 1885

A startling revelation sends Elizabeth Lawson escaping into a stormy night - and tosses her into the arms of a young mountain man with secrets of his own. When he offers to take her to the Nevada mining town where her long-lost brother lives, she accepts. Suspicions and uncertainties are pushed aside as she struggles to forge a future for herself by meeting her past.

David has been hiding from his painful memories for years. The solitude and wildness of the Rocky Mountains are challenge and comfort enough for him - until Elizabeth's arrival. Fueled by anger and a sense of obligation, he strives to take control of his new situation...only to find control slipping from his grasp with each new emotion Elizabeth evokes in him.

When their journey leads them on unexpected paths, can two lonely hearts find the strength to remember the good amid the heartbreak?

My thoughts:

I was pleasantly surprised when I read Bleeding Heart (book two in this series and Amber Stokes' debut novel) last year, and I was anticipating this prequel to that story! Forget Me Not was another great read! The pages flew by as I was reading and the story kept me guessing - I really had no idea how things would turn out for Elizabeth and David.

Speaking of David...I loved his character and how repentant he became when he made a certain mistake. I also loved that Myghal was in this book. He was a favorite character of mine from Bleeding Heart, so it was interesting getting this glimpse of his life before that book. I didn't like Joe all that much, for reasons I'll refrain from saying, as they might be spoiler-ish.

There was a little bit of mystery to Forget Me Not, which I really enjoyed. The characters were very endearing and I felt many emotions while reading this book.

Overall, Forget Me Not was a very enjoyable book to read! I recommend it if you enjoy short historical/western novels with some romance. I'm anticipating Amber's next book, Morning Glory, which is set to release summer 2014.

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. ~ Philippians 4:8
