Hi there! I am excited to be a part of the End of Summer
Birthday Bash. How thrilling! I’m also excited to share with you about my
September release, Sunken Treasure.
What is your novel, Sunken
Treasure, about?
Shipwreck diver Gage Fontaine is used to modern-day pirates
chasing after his boat and the buried treasure he salvages. But when he
unknowingly leads a dangerous criminal to the waters off Stepping Stones
Island, he puts a beautiful fisherwoman in grave danger. Rachelle Thibodaux has
spent the past year hiding on her boat to avoid the town's censure for her
father's crimes. But when she comes face-to-face with a gun-wielding pirate,
she becomes a new kind of target. To save her own life, she'll have to work
with Gage to find the treasure before the pirates do.
What would you say is your most interesting writing quirk?
I can’t believe I am going to share this, but when I am
doing my final read through, I read the book aloud…in a British accent. I am
not British. I don’t know why I do this, it just comes out. The problem is in
my current work-in-progress, my hero is Irish. I hear him yelling at me with
his thick Irish brogue every time I read his lines. “That is not how I would
say that!”
What do you do when you are not writing?
I homeschool my children and that takes up most of my day.
My kids are also competitive swimmers, and I spend a lot of time in the stands
cheering them on.
What are your favorite and least favorite genres to read and
why?
I used to say I would only read a story that contained a
romance in it, and to a point that is still true, although I have branched out
to suspense and mysteries, but no horror. I have read some suspense stories
that made me afraid to turn out the lights, but I continued on with them
because of the romance thread. I like to be emotionally stirred, but not
scarred.
Do you have a favorite Bible verse?
Many and many, but I will share the Bible verse God gave me
for Sunken Treasure.
Pslam 18:16-19
He reached down from heaven. He took hold of me.
He lifted me out
of deep waters.
He saved me from my powerful enemies.
He set me free
from those who were too strong for me.
They stood up to me when I was in trouble.
But the Lord
helped me.
He brought me out into a wide and safe place.
He saved me
because he delights in me.
I love that it says He saved me because he delights in me.
There’s no great motivator to learn who this great rescuer is than that.
What is your favorite season and why?
Fall is my favorite season. My birthday is in October as
well as my anniversary. My first child was born in November. Most things begin
anew in the autumn, like school lessons. It feels more like a fresh start than
New Year’s and spring to me.
Do you have any favorite summer memories?
We strive to give the children lots of fun experiences to
remember for always, but I would say for me, the day we picked up our foster
(soon-to-be adopted) child when she was five, and took her, along with my two other
children, then four and five, to Tanglewood to picnic on the lawn and listen to
the Boston Symphony practice for the evening concert. The weather was perfect,
and it was a great start to our new family.
If you were hosting a dinner party and could invite any five
people, who would you invite?
Well, in our home studies, we all just finished reading A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court by
Mark Twain and found it to be quite satirical, so I would say Samuel Clemens
would have to be given an invite.
We love to laugh, and Comedian Brian Regan is a favorite of
ours. The night would surely be one of fits and giggles with him at the table.
Graham Cooke is an English pastor, now living in California,
who I have learned so much from. Perhaps it has something to do with his
British accent, but I could sit and listen to all the wisdom he shares for
hours…and have. He would be sure to enlighten many at the table.
Helen Keller has always been an inspiration to me. I love
when people have the odds stacked against them and they overcome them, not with
ease, but with determination. They also have wisdom to pass on and much to
offer.
And last but not least, race car driver Danica Patrick. Here
is another woman beating the odds stacked against her…and doing it just as well
as the men. I also need to chew her ear for a bit because I just signed a
contract with Harlequin that is centered around a speedway. Need lots of ideas
for sabotage and mayhem.
Snowstorms or Thunderstorms? Snowstorms
Chocolate or Vanilla? Chocolate
Tea or Coffee? Tea
Cats or Dogs? Cats
Early-bird or Night-owl? Early-bird
Introvert or Extrovert? Introvert, but working on becoming an ambi-vert…thanks to
Graham Cooke.
Facebook or Twitter? Facebook
Cake or Cupcakes? Cupcakes
Sneakers or Sandals? Vans and sandals
Thank you so much for being here, Katy!
