About the book:
Due to her parents' promise at her birth, Lady Rosemarie has been prepared to become a nun on the day she turns eighteen. Then, a month before her birthday, a friend of her father's enters the kingdom and proclaims her parents' will left a second choice--if Rosemarie can marry before the eve of her eighteenth year, she will be exempt from the ancient vow.

Before long, Rosemarie is presented with the three most handsome and brave knights in the land. But when the competition for her heart seemingly results in a knight playing foul, she begins to wonder if the convent is the best place after all. If only one of the knights--the one who appears the most guilty--had not already captured her heart.

My thoughts:

I read the prequel novella, The Vow, prior to An Uncertain Choice and I definitely recommend reading it first. It gives a lot of insight into the characters and backstory.

An Uncertain Choice is Jody Hedlund's first YA novel and a really good one! I enjoyed the characters (my favorite was Sir Derrick!) and the mystery in the book. I also loved all the knights and how they tried to woo Rosemarie. I did feel that at times the story was a little predictable, but there were also some surprising twists, so it evened out for me. ;)

I didn't expect the book to end the way it did -- with such a cliffhanger -- and it makes me eager to pick up the next book when it releases. I have to know what happens next!!

Overall, a good story with an almost fairytale feel. If you enjoy medieval novels and YA fiction, I think you'll like this one.

  6. It's wonderful to see a clean reads ya book like this. Jody Hedlund has such great and inspirational books for adults so it's a great market for her to tap into for teens. Alot of the teen books out there are not what I would want my teens to read. This book is one I will definitely be showing my teen daughters . I hope to win it to share with them and I hope she has many more teen reads coming out.

  7. This book sounds amazing! I added it to my to-read list. I love that Rosemarie watches these men fighting over her and thinks she might be better off at the convent! Too funny! Thanks for the giveaway and good luck to everyone. :)

  8. A cliff-hanger, eh? I suppose book two isn't set to come out until next year. How distressing! But I'd still love to read this one.

  18. I've enjoyed other books by Jody Hedlund so am interested in reading this book, even though it is YA (and I'm not!). I have found that some YA books, such as those by Melanie Dickerson, are quite interesting to older readers too. Thanks for the info that this book has a cliff hanger ending. With books that end that way, I like to get all the books in the series before I start to read so I can read them one after the other. I don't like having to wait several months to a year to find out what happens next.

  19. The book sounds so cool! For some reason I love reading books that have to do with arranged marriages :) Thank you for the chance to win!

  20. Hello Melissa. Sounds interesting. I can't imagine how many arranged marriages happened. Parents must have lots of money involved to promise their children for marriage when they were still little. Yuck!
Course some people make bad choices many times when they pick their own partner, but still. The only other choice to marry before your time ran out. What choices. Thanks for the review and give away.
