About the book:
Former frat boy Clay Walsh has given up his reckless lifestyle and settled down to run an antique shop in a small Midwestern college town. Determined to put his partying ways behind him, Clay has become notorious for his lofty and outdated theories on love and romance. But when Amber Hewson, a free-spirited woman with a gypsy soul, rents the apartment above his shop, Clay can’t help being attracted to her spontaneous and passionate embrace of life.

New to the area, Amber finds herself surprisingly drawn to Clay and his noble ideas, but her own fears and deep wounds are difficult to overcome. Can they move beyond their differences and their pasts to attempt an “old-fashioned” courtship?

My thoughts:

Old Fashioned, the novel, was much better than the movie -- in my opinion. I felt like the characters and their emotions were better portrayed in written form. I liked how the book was written and that it was authentic in the characters' struggles.

Since I've seen the movie, I couldn't help but picture the actors and scenes while reading this novelization and I actually think that made me enjoy it even more.

All in all, I enjoyed Old Fashioned. If you are looking for a sweet, unique read and enjoy contemporary romance, you might like this book.

My thoughts:

The Old Fashioned Way was really good. I liked how the chapters were short and easy to get through, but also thought-provoking. I can see myself rereading parts someday since I had to read this quickly and wasn't able to soak it in.

The quotes from the movie were fun and I thought that the author made some great points. I liked how she pointed out the positive in both today's dating scene and yesteryear's dating scene.

Overall, The Old Fashioned Way was a great read. I really liked reading it.

  3. I'm excited to read Old Fashioned and see the movie. I have been a fan of Rene's since Boo came out years ago. I'm also hoping that I get the chance to see the Skid movie sometime soon, the book was really good.

  4. I really do think that love stories are much nicer when they are written so that all of the couples interaction is done the old fashioned way and not done on the internet or texting. Who wants to get love notes texted to them when a really nice note can be kept? It just seems to have more meaning if someone has ot get out a paper and pen and write a note! There really isn't much to be said about text messages. They are cold.

  6. I love the idea of the movie and the books to bring back old fashioned romance. I've been wanting to see the movie ever since it came out and the books sounds just as good (especially the non-fiction one). I believe in our time and age this kind of books/movies are really important so that people can question themselves as too where society is today and if they stand by society's standards.

Thanks for the reviews and the giveaway! ;)

  16. I always think that a book is better than the movie based on the book. There is no way that you can fit all of the important details into a 2 hr. movie. Thanks so much for the chance to win this prize package.
