About TOBYMAC:
Toby McKeehan(known professionally as TobyMac) is a husband, father, performer, songwriter, producer, and businessman. Growing up in the northern Virginia suburbs adjacent to Washington D.C. helped instill his love for rap music. While attending Liberty University during the mid 80s, Toby met Michael Tait and Kevin Max Smith and these three friends formed the Grammy winning, platinum selling group dc Talk. Toby began his solo career in 1999 with his first solo album, Momentum, releasing in 2001. Momentum has been followed by four additional studio albums, Welcome to Diverse City (2004), Portable Sounds (2007), Tonight (2010), and Eye On It (2012), along with his first live album, Alive and Transported (2008). This Is Not A Test is his 6th studio album to be released. Starting with dc Talk, and then going solo when the group disbanded, Toby still clings to such rootsy notions as hard work, persistence, patience, and - perhaps most relevant of all - the power of music, which he insists is still what keeps him going. "It's the truth," he says. "I still believe that a song can penetrate a heart. I believe God can use a song to open someone's mind and heart."

I'm a huge fan of TobyMac's music and while I've only listened to this album a couple times, I can tell that I really like it! TobyMac's songs always have a unique flare/sound and I don't even know how to describe it, but I like it. I love the songs "Backseat Driver" (featuring TobyMac's son -- Tru [aka TruDog from previous albums]) and "This is Not a Test", but they are all catchy and have good/meaningful lyrics.All in all, a great album. I recommend it if you like Christian pop and/or hip-hop music. It's really good!

ReplyDeleteWell I was a huge DC Talk fan before they split. I did not fallow TobyMac. If I win this I would give it to my daughter who is a huge TobyMac fan!
I love way too many DC Talk songs to choose one - Jesus Freak, Into Jesus, Say the Words, just to name a few.
I grew up on D.C. Talk. The first album I got was Nu Thang...They finally hit it really big with Jesus Freak, and then split to be solo after the next album. Their live show was really where it was at, and TobyMac has proved that with his live shows now. I have his first solo album.

ReplyDeleteWe love his music and have been to a couple of his concerts. His song "Steal My Show" is the ring tone for my husband when he calls me! :-) I think we have all his CDS so far and can't wait to get this one. My daughter has already been listening to Backseat Driver A lot!
