Books I Finished Recently:

I've been fighting a reading slump (again) and haven't finished any books this week...although I've finally made progress on a couple. :)

What I'm Currently Reading:

Fiction

About the book:

In this compelling new time-slip mystery, a little girl goes missing from her family’s castle in the Thousand Islands of New York. Eighty-five years later, a journalist teams up with a woman living on Koster Isle to find out what happened to Poppy, once and for all.

1907. On the eve of her fifth birthday, Poppy Pendleton is tucked safely in her bed, listening to her parents entertain New York’s gilded society in their Thousand Islands castle; the next morning, she is gone, and her father is found dead in his smoking room.

1992. Though Chloe Ridell lives in the shadows of Poppy’s castle, now in ruins, she has little interest in the mystery that still captivates tourists and locals alike. She is focused on preserving the island she inherited from her grandparents and reviving their vintage candy shop. Until the day a girl named Emma shows up on Chloe’s doorstep, with few possessions, save a tattered scrapbook that connects her to the Pendleton family. When a reporter arrives at Chloe’s store, asking questions about her grandfather, Chloe decides to help him dig into a past she’d thought best left buried. The haunting truth about Poppy, they soon discover, could save Emma’s life, so Chloe and Logan must work together to investigate exactly what happened long ago on Koster Isle.

About the book:

Daphne Ballinger has learned to accept her deceased, eccentric aunt’s strange request that she marry in order to inherit her estate, along with taking over her aunt’s hometown paper’s advice column.

But knowing and accepting that God’s will be done becomes harder when a new neighbor, a divorced socialite, learns of Daphne’s predicament and takes on the task of finding her the perfect man, even if it includes speed dating. When God does open Daphne’s heart, it is instead to take in a young girl left parentless and in the care of her dying grandmother. It may be a temporary arrangement until the girl’s uncle returns from the Marines, but God uses Daphne to speak His heavenly love and protection into the life of the child -- whom Daphne soon discovers has a very handsome and single uncle.

Nonfiction:

An empowering guide to the gift of singleness that will help you leave shame in the past and let go of anxiety about the future in order to thrive today—from a thirtysomething single pastor who understands that the struggle is real.

“Raw, relatable, and encouraging.”—New York Times bestselling author Granger Smith

Ryan Wekenman has been an unmarried pastor for over a decade. He’s heard all the usual questions: “Are you dating anyone? Any wedding plans in the future?” But he knows the real question they’re asking is, “Hey, do you think you’ll be single for the rest of your life?”

Ryan believes that singleness isn’t a curse to endure. Rather, it’s a gift to enjoy, even if at times it can be hard to see it that way. But he has discovered firsthand—and from hundreds of meetings with other single people—that we are often consumed by regrets or shame from the past, together with worry or fear of the future, making it feel impossible to find peace in the present.

But it doesn’t have to be that way. Single Today shares Ryan’s perceptive anecdotes, thought-provoking questions, biblical insight, and disarming humor as he invites you into his journey of learning to fully embrace his current reality.

Single Today will encourage you to

• gain practical tools to help handle the annoying and uncomfortable situations single people get placed in
• learn how to talk to family and friends about your singleness with confidence
• practice opening your heart and embracing true intimacy
• stop believing your marital status is keeping you stuck
• start living the full and abundant life available today

No amount of shame will change the past, and no amount of worry will fix the future, but with a little faith and work, you can start thriving today.

I've taken a break from this one, but hope to pick it up again soon. Really enjoying it so far!

About the book:

Taste the Goodness of God in Every Season and Circumstance

Whether it’s a full plate or a heavy heart, don’t let whatever you’re walking through today keep you from tasting God's goodness. You were created to be nourished daily by the sweet and satisfying love of God.

Cambria Joy invites you to savor bite-size portions of Scripture and come to know God's heart to feed your hungry soul. From Genesis through Revelation, you will see he longs to shape us so that we delight in Him alone—
because only He will satisfy.

Welcome to the land of milk and honey. The table is set. Come, taste, and see how “good” only scratches the surface.

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. ~ Philippians 4:8
