Stealing Jake is the first book I've read by Pam Hillman and it was a good read. I really liked one of the messages in the story - the hard life orphans/street kids have and helping those in need. I also loved Livy's redemption story.

It was a little tough for me to get into this book. I don't know if it was the writing or what, but it didn't really grip me. The characters were nice and, even though I really liked a few of them, I don't have a favorite.

Overall, a good debut novel. Stealing Jake was interesting and I'm open to reading future books by this author. If you enjoy historical books with a good message, I think you'll probably like Stealing Jake, too. :)
