I'm just a simple Kentucky gal with a passion for history and romance. Right now I live in the woods of Washington state with my husband and 2 teenage sons so stay busy writing and being a wife and mom. Recently I traveled to Scotland where I hope to set a new series in the Highlands or Hebrides. I also love to knit, cook, garden, and do that crazy thing called aqua zumba.
What are your current projects?
Right now I'm working on the third book in The Ballantyne Legacy and expecting a new cover from the art team/designer for book 2, titled Love's Awakening. And I'm researching book 4 which will wrap up the series. Then, hopefully, I'll begin another...
What was the hardest part of writing your book, Love's Reckoning?
Oh, love the question. That would be the scene with David Greathouse and Eden Lee at the tavern. Silas is riding hard after them to avert disaster but... So often the hero arrives in the nick of time but not in this book. I didn't plan to make life so hard for poor Eden but the story seemed to call for it and I think it made the happy ending sweeter. Though some readers may disagree!
What books have influenced your life the most?
The Bible foremost and just recently the amazing devotional, Jesus Calling, by Sarah Young. As for fiction, I love The Blue Castle by LM Montgomery (Ann of Green Gables author) and anything by Francine Rivers and Liz Curtis Higgs, both masters of the writing craft.
What's your favorite party food?
Artichoke cream cheese dip! And Perrier with a splash of cranberry and a twist of lime. Together they're divine!
Do you have a favorite birthday/party memory you'd like to share?
On my 18th birthday, my dad threw open the front door of our house and an entire fraternity stood in our front yard singing me happy birthday. Being shy, I was mortified! I don't know how he coerced those college kids to come over and do that but they sure could sing. My favorite memory though is of my 7th birthday. I don't remember much except how happy I felt all day so this has always been my favorite memory.
What are your top three favorite songs?
Northbound Train from the soundtrack of North&South, Song for a Winter's Night by Sarah MacLachlan, and anything on the fiddle.
What's your favorite comfort food?
My granny's cornbread drenched in butter. Nothing like it!
A few this-or-that questions:
Cake or Cupcakes? Cakes - specifically German Chocolate Cake.
Facebook or Twitter? I killed my Twitter account a couple of years ago so guess I'll say Facebook.
Vanilla or Chocolate? Vanilla. So clean and fresh tasting and smelling.
Sneakers or Sandals? Sandals. I sort of collect them and love the really pretty, feminine ones.
Print or eBook? Print without a doubt. Love the smell and feel of an in hand book! I can't do without the covers either.

Laura, nice to get to know you better. I loved Courting Morrow Little. I let my daughter borrow it and she loved it, too. I would love to win another one of your books!
ReplyDeleteDebbie, I remember you:) So thankful you and your daughter enjoyed Morrow's world so much. I miss those characters. Would love to send you both another book. Thanks for making Friday special!
DeleteI just love Laura's books. Thanks for the interview.
ReplyDeletegodblessamerica.jan(at)gmail(dot)com
Jan, Oh, thanks so much for your kind words. A wonderful way to end a Friday:) Have a blessed weekend!
DeleteGreat interview! I have to say I am one of those readers who wishes Silas had got there in time but I love how tactfully you handled the situation and yes it did make the ending sweeter! I still need to read your other books but they are on my TBR list and I can't wait to read more in this series!
ReplyDeleteAbbi, I so understand your feelings. Would you believe that scene came out of nowhere and I nearly took it out then felt led to keep it in? Heaven only knows why! Thanks for your gracious words and for reading even when things got a little dark for Eden. You're the best kind of reader:)
DeleteYou know, I'm really glad you left that scene in the book. It made the story more realistic (even if it was really sad!). In most books the hero gets there just in time and saves the day. While, of course, I like that, it's not always believable.
DeleteLove's Reckoning was SO good and, as you know, I loved it SOOOO much!! :) Can hardly wait for book two. (P.S. So looking forward to seeing the cover for Love's Awakening!)
I'm seconding your comment Melanie!
DeleteI simply had to smile when I read that Northbound Train is one of Ms. Laura's favorite songs.
ReplyDeleteJemimah, I'm smiling, too:) It's a classic - so romantic. Thanks for being here. BTW, LOVE your name. My hero, Daniel Boone, had a favorite daughter by that name. It's a keeper:)
DeleteLaura Frantz is one of my favorites authors. Thanks for the interview!
ReplyDeleteAnne, Oh, love the "favorite" word. I'm honored. Thanks so much for saying such kind things and taking time for my books!

ReplyDeleteThanks for the opportunity to win!
luvs2read4fun(at)gmail(dot)com

ReplyDeletekristie(at)connectionlifechurch(dot)org
Kristie, Thanks so much for being so supportive and gracious. Can't wait for you to read more:) Happy Friday!
DeleteWow, Melanie, what a great blog! Thanks for hosting one of my favorite authors today.
ReplyDeleteLaura, love to see all the stories you have "in the works"! How long does it take for you to finish a book from start to finish? A Highlands series would be great. :)
Thanks for sharing!
Whitney, SO happy you're here:) Love your questions, too! I must be getting a bit faster as I write and research. My debut novel took me over 10 years to write as I took a 5 year break in the middle to be with my little boys with no distractions. Second novel took 3 yrs and 3rd novel 2 yrs. Now I can write a novel in a year and still feel it's a quality book. Another bestselling author recently said to me, "Your readers will forgive you for the wait between books but they'll never forgive you for a bad book." My goal is to write the best books I can without too much of a wait. Lord willing!
DeleteAnd I'm smiling about your Highland idea as that's where I'm headed with my next books. You mind reader you;)
Thank you Laura and Melanie for the great interview. Laura, I would love to read one of your books. Thanks for the opportunity to win one.
ReplyDeletemay_dayzee(at)yahoo(dot)com

ReplyDeleteLaura have you ever tried a little molasses on your granny's cornbread? I love it and every time we make cornbread I usually save mine till dessert! :) Though I love molasses (actually I usually like a little cornbread wit my molasses!) LOL!
Amada (pronounced: a.m.a.th.a)
amada_chavez{AT}yahoo{DOT}com
Amada, I remember you from TCBN (I think!). You're the one with the lovely name:) YES, I love molasses and grew up on it, especially blackstrap molasses. It's so rich in iron and good for you. I eat it mostly on biscuits but cornbread will do, too! Bless you for being here. You gave me a good smile - and now I want some molasses!
DeleteI've heard SO many great things about Laura's books! I really need to start reading them. :)
ReplyDeleteHi Stacy, I recognize you from your beautiful picture. Thanks SO much for being so gracious. I would love for you to read my work! And I hope you enjoy those stories when you do:) Happy Friday!

Miss L, I'm thrilled to have discovered you as a reader, too! Bless you for taking time here - happy Friday to you!
DeleteAwesome interview! Definitely can't wait to read this novel because I haven't read it yet! I know it's going to be good!
ReplyDeleteHi Laura, Love your name ~ it's so lovely and old-fashioned;) At least that's what people tell me! Would love for you to read my books. Thanks for your kind words!
DeleteI agree with Laura's answer to the question of her preference of books. Though I like reading on my Kindle, I prefer a real book, partly because I can see the cover (many of them are quite beautiful). Also, when I'm looking for a book to read, a print book often has a synopsis on the back that helps me know about the story. On my Kindle, it's just the title and author, so it's not as easy to choose. I'd have to go somewhere else to look up what the book is about. Books often sit on my Kindle (and my shelf) for awhile before I am able to read them.
ReplyDeleteThanks for this interview with Laura and for giving away one of her books.
pmk56[at]sbcglobal[dot]net
Pam, So glad you mentioned the back cover copy. I really like that info, too, along with the covers. Thanks so much for taking time here. I hope you enjoy my books if you read them - and I hope you do!

ReplyDeleteThanks, Sarah, for being open to a new author like me:) It's great meeting new readers here!
DeleteThanks for the chance to win!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Natasha!
DeleteThis is a nice interview and a wonderful giveaway.
ReplyDeleteI have to ask, though...how to you kill a twitter account? I've seen them blocked or shutdown for the evening due to over-use during twitter parties (during book releases), but haven't heard of them being killed yet, lol.
Thanks for the giveaway.
Vicky, lol - good question;) Now you'll roll your eyes because I've just reopened Twitter since this interview went live. My agent talked me into it though I was quite happy NOT being a tweetheart! I killed or cancelled the first account because it just wasn't my style and I didn't have time to read all those tweets. My guess is nobody does so am still not sure what the allure is there... But I'll give it a try.
DeleteThanks so much for being here and making me smile:)
Laura, I love reading your books. Thanks for a great giveaway!
ReplyDeleteKd, I love reading your comments! Thanks for saying such kind things about my books. I would love to send you a book:)
DeleteGreat giveaway! I'm reading Courting Morrow Little right now. One of the best books I've read in a while. I hate to put it down.
ReplyDeleteKRIS! Oh, so happy you're in Morrow's world and don't want to leave:) That's a huge blessing. I felt that way as I was writing it - didn't want to finish that story and put those characters away.
DeleteYou're so gracious. I hope you enjoy my other books just as much if you have time for them. Bless you!
Thanks for the opportunity to become acquainted with your writing by winning a copy of one of your books!
ReplyDeletebonnieroof60@yahoo.com
Bonnie, THRILLED you're a fellow Kentuckian:) Never enough of those! Thanks so much for wanting to read my stories. I pray you like them if you do!
DeleteWould love to read one of your books! Thanks from a fellow Ky. native.
ReplyDeletebonnieroof60@yahoo.com
Northbound Train = great song. I do love your pinterest boards, you have so many cool pins. Courting Morrow Little was my favorite of the three I've read. Looking forward to reading Love's Reckoning! Thanks for the international giveaway!
ReplyDeleteRina, So happy you're here:) LOVE that Morrow has first place in your heart out of the Kentucky books. That means so much. Hope you enjoy LR just as much.
DeleteAnd yes, Pinterest is such an amazing place! Thanks for looking at my boards over there:) I've gone a bit crazy over the historical dresses and accessories but it does provide great story detail!
Thanks so much for your kind words, Rina.
I just got done reading this book and wrote about it on my blog! Great book! To read what I said about it you can go here: http://kissedbooks.blogspot.com/
ReplyDeleteHi Salyna, Oh, will be over to read your blog - thx for the heads up:) SO happy you enjoyed it! Love the "kissed books" moniker here - that's perfect!
DeleteHello Laura, it's always good to connect with you. I'm a devoted fan and avid reader of your books. Still swooning over Red Shirt and he and Morrow's story in Courting Morrow Little. Also love the soundtrack to Northbound Train. Is that available for sale? Keep up the excellent storytelling!
ReplyDeleteElise, Always a pleasure to see you here, there, or anywhere:) You're among good company here as several people have mentioned Morrow's story. That really blesses me. Sadly, I've not found the soundtrack to Northbound Train or North&South - but I will keep looking and notify you when or if I do. It's wonderful music, that's for sure.
DeleteI should have a new cover for you soon, my friend:) Thanks for taking time here. I often think of you and your daughter!
I have heard good things about Laura's books, And I would really like to read Love's Reckoning also!
ReplyDeleteMarie, Thanks so much. Would love for you to read Eden's story!
DeleteI just finished The Story Girl by LMM, but I greatly wish I had picked Blue Castle instead! :)
ReplyDeleteNever too late, Bluerose:) The Blue Castle will wait. It's one of those rare books I've read more than once. It's that good! I liked The Story Girl, too!
DeleteSuch a gorgeous cover!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the cover love:) Revell's art team rocks!
DeleteThanks Melanie for having Laura today. I love the covers on your books Laura. And, I also love the real book in my hands. But, i fear with so many e readers out there, and now so many books just e books, that it will close a lot of the bookstores down. Sad day when everything changes because of the new electronics. Even our PO might have to close. So many do their business and writing online. The book I need of yours is "The Frontiersman's Daughter" I now have the other 3. Am hoping real hard to win it Thank you both for this opportunity to win. MAXIE mac262(at)me(dot)com
ReplyDeleteMaxie, So glad to read your thoughtful words here. I agree and am a bit sad about all the changes the e-book craze has brought. Feel badly for our bookstores and even our little country PO which is facing closure here, too.
DeleteThank you for reading my other 3 books. That means a lot that you enjoyed them enough to want to read about Lael and Ian and gang. I'm expecting my next book cover to go live on the web any day now. I rec'd it last week and am waiting for my publisher to post. Hope you think it's as lovely as the others. Thanks for being here and being a blessing:)
Laura's books are so good, even though the recent one, Love's Reckoning, was so sad I could hardly bear it. My favorite of hers is The Colonel's Lady. It's just delicious. Keep up the great writing!
ReplyDeletekandrajane at bellsouth dot net
Bless you, Kandra, for your kind words. I agree - Love's Reckoning is quite emotional and sad at times despite that happy ending! I think you'll find book 2, Love's Awakening, not so sad:) I hope you like Ellie and her Jack. Love the delicious word! TCL was such a joy to write. So happy you enjoyed Roxie and Cass's story. DeleteHOLY COW ... I'm commenter #168, so I know what YOU are doing today, Laura!!!
ReplyDeleteI just came by to wish Melanie a HAPPY 2-YEAR BLOGAVERSARY and to say that Laura Frantz is hands-down one of my ALL-TIME FAVORITE AUTHORS and an automatic auto-buy. I read most books for contest judging, review, and endorsement purposes, but LAURA'S BOOKS I read for sheer pleasure!! She is simply one of THE BEST in the CBA today, period.
Hugs,
Julie

Happy Blogoversary, Melanie, and thanks for the giveaway! I would love to read a historical romance.
ReplyDeleteMelanie congratulations on two years! Laura's books look like a great read. Her covers remind me a little of Anna Goberson's covers. I also love authors who use their books to apply what the bible teaches.
ReplyDeleteAll of your covers are so very gorgeous, but especially "Loves Reckoning"--so dramatic!
