About the book:
Former frat boy Clay Walsh has given up his reckless lifestyle and
settled down to run an antique shop in a small Midwestern college town.
Determined to put his partying ways behind him, Clay has become
notorious for his lofty and outdated theories on love and romance. But
when Amber Hewson, a free-spirited woman with a gypsy soul, rents the
apartment above his shop, Clay can’t help being attracted to her
spontaneous and passionate embrace of life.
New to the area, Amber finds herself surprisingly drawn to Clay and his noble ideas, but her own fears and deep wounds are difficult to overcome. Can they move beyond their differences and their pasts to attempt an “old-fashioned” courtship?

My thoughts:
Old Fashioned, the novel, was much better than the movie -- in my opinion. I felt like the characters and their emotions were better portrayed in written form. I liked how the book was written and that it was authentic in the characters' struggles.
Since I've seen the movie, I couldn't help but picture the actors and scenes while reading this novelization and I actually think that made me enjoy it even more.
All in all, I enjoyed Old Fashioned. If you are looking for a sweet, unique read and enjoy contemporary romance, you might like this book.

Contrary to popular opinion, being “old fashioned” doesn’t mean you’re
dull or unromantic. In fact, a true old-fashioned relationship can be

means opening doors, holding out chairs, and taking things slow. But a

reclaim the lost art of romance by introducing you to romantic love as
God intended it―for all of us. Regardless of your past experiences,
where you’ve been, or where you are now, you can find and create a love
that will last a lifetime.
As you work your way through this 40-day journey of inspiring readings and questions for reflection, you’ll discover all the unique and amazing benefits of doing things the old-fashioned way and be well on your way to creating a love story for the ages.

My thoughts:
The Old Fashioned Way was really good. I liked how the chapters were short and easy to get through, but also thought-provoking. I can see myself rereading parts someday since I had to read this quickly and wasn't able to soak it in.
The quotes from the movie were fun and I thought that the author made some great points. I liked how she pointed out the positive in both today's dating scene and yesteryear's dating scene.
Overall, The Old Fashioned Way was a great read. I really liked reading it.

Oh, this sounds like a wonderful prize giveaway. It would come in handy for my two adult aged daughters thanks.
ReplyDeleteI have an old fashioned marriage and need a few tips to make my relationship with my husband more romantic as God intended. I would love to watch the movie and read both books.
ReplyDeleteI'm excited to read Old Fashioned and see the movie. I have been a fan of Rene's since Boo came out years ago. I'm also hoping that I get the chance to see the Skid movie sometime soon, the book was really good.
ReplyDeleteI really do think that love stories are much nicer when they are written so that all of the couples interaction is done the old fashioned way and not done on the internet or texting. Who wants to get love notes texted to them when a really nice note can be kept? It just seems to have more meaning if someone has ot get out a paper and pen and write a note! There really isn't much to be said about text messages. They are cold.
ReplyDeleteI did leave a comment already to be reviewed.
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of the movie and the books to bring back old fashioned romance. I've been wanting to see the movie ever since it came out and the books sounds just as good (especially the non-fiction one). I believe in our time and age this kind of books/movies are really important so that people can question themselves as too where society is today and if they stand by society's standards.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the reviews and the giveaway! ;)
I have read the book & would really like to see the movie..Thanks for the review and I agree it was a good book!
ReplyDeleteI'm excited to try this book out!
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen this movie yet, and would really like to. And I didn't know until recently that there's a book! Now I'd like to read it, especially if you think it's better than the movie. :)
ReplyDeleteI heard a lot of good things about the movie... Hoping the book will be just as good!
ReplyDeleteI have been wanting to read this book! I actually hadn't heard about the movie somehow.... huh.... LOL Oh well, I have now!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway!!
Ooh, I've been wanting to see this movie!! And I have the book on my kindle actually, :D But I haven't gotten a chance to read it yet.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, nice review, and thanks for putting on a giveaway! :)
Love old fashioned charm!
ReplyDeleteNever heard about this before -- am very interested in both movie and book!

ReplyDeleteHi Melanie. This sounds like something I would like to win for I'm old fashioned too. Thanks for the reviews. Maxie > mac262(at)me(dot)com <
ReplyDeleteI always think that a book is better than the movie based on the book. There is no way that you can fit all of the important details into a 2 hr. movie. Thanks so much for the chance to win this prize package.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the wonderful review ! I grew up in a time when old fashioned was in fashion ! i think this is a great time for being reminded what that really means, and helping model our lives on its principles. , and offer the younger generations better role models.
