Review: Shadows of Pain by Ashley Dawn

Shadows of Pain by Ashley Dawn
Shadow Series: Book Three
Nov. 2011
Find on: Amazon, Goodreads

About the book:

Revenge is sweet…unless you are on the receiving end of it.

“Do you know of anyone who would want…you dead?”

Officer Daniel Jenkins was no stranger to the dangers his job posed but usually he knew who was trying to kill him. Being stalked was a completely different ball game, and he wasn’t sure there were any rules…

“…I need you.”

Terrified didn’t even begin to describe how Kami felt with the stalker targeting her. As an FBI agent you were trained to handle stressful situations, but being the victim put the whole process in a different light.

As the killer gets closer, so do Kami and Daniel, but will they live long enough to see their love bloom?

Only God can save them from this unknown killer…

My thoughts:

Shadows of Pain is the third book I've read by Ashley Dawn and I found it to be another good suspense novel. Even though I've read the first two books in the Shadow series, it's been a while and I found myself a little confused about who everyone was... it would have been nice if things would have been explained a little more.

I liked both of the main characters in Shadows of Pain (Daniel and Kami) and getting updates on the main characters from the previous books. I did think the writing was a little repetitive at times, but the story was still really good.

While I don't think this is my favorite of the series, I still enjoyed it a lot and look forward to reading more by Ashley Dawn in the future. If you like suspense novels with some romance, then I think you might like Shadows of Pain, but I recommend first reading books one and two (Shadows from the Past and Shadows of Suspicion), because otherwise I think you'll be really confused.

Review & Giveaway: Shadows of Suspicion by Ashley Dawn

Shadows of Suspicion by Ashley Dawn
Shadows series: Book Two
Find on: Amazon, Goodreads

About the book:

Revenge is the agenda...

"Find my sister."

Rick Reiley's words were what drove Luke to search mercilessly for Kerry. He is in a race against time to find her and will have to face more than a criminal mastermind to get close to her. He is prepared to give his life for her, but what about his heart?

"...I would like you to meet....My wife."

Those words from her enigmatic rescuer threw Kerry more than anything else that had happened to her in the last few days...and that was saying a lot! Kerry's simple life is turned upside down when she is kidnapped and dragged to the middle of nowhere by a madman. She trusts Luke with her life, but can she trust him with her heart?

As Luke fights to keep Kerry safe, the chemistry ignites and the danger gets closer.

Will God protect them while Luke tries to sort out his heart....and capture Kerry's?

My thoughts:

Shadows of Suspicion was a good read. I had read book one in this series, Shadows From the Past, in late 2011, so I couldn't remember all of the details, but I think this book did an okay job of reminding me what had happened.

I loved both of the main characters - Luke (there was so much mystery to him and I just loved learning about him and his past) and Kerry (I liked how strong she was). Of course, I also liked Kerry's brothers - Rick, Jordan, and JJ.

I will say, the way the book was set up (multiple POV's) took some getting used to and there were some grammatical/punctuation errors that were hard for me to ignore (and normally that sort of stuff doesn't bother me).

All that said, I still really liked most of the story and loved the romance and suspense! I look forward to reading the next book in this series for many reasons, one being how some things didn't seem "finished" and I'm hoping the next book will answer some of that.

Review & Giveaway: 'Shadows From The Past' by Ashley Dawn

Shadows From the Past (Shadow Series)Shadows From the Past by Ashley Dawn

About the book:

“…It is the price you pay for choosing to be a cop. Your brother’s life…”

Those words haunt her dreams, and her waking moments. LAPD officer, Aurora Kavvan cannot rest until she finds her brothers killer. Digging into the past always brings back unpleasant things: memories, guilt…the hit man. Now she is in a race against time to find the murderer before he finds her.

“Kill her. I don’t care how, and I don’t care where, but I want her dead now!”

Someone was trying to kill his dead partner’s sister. FBI agent, Jordan Reiley will stop at nothing to protect the woman he loves. Even if it means going against her wishes; putting himself between her and the man who murdered her brother.

Will God keep them alive long enough for them to find the truth?

This was definitely a difficult book to put down! I absolutely loved it! It started out with such a suspenseful and dramatic scene that I, from page one, found myself caught up in the story!

Danger seems to be following Aurora Kavvan everywhere. Years ago, her brother was killed in front of her with her gun - Aurora still blames herself for his death. Now her partner was shot when they were on a stakeout and she would have been next had she not shot and killed the gunman! Someone is clearly after her, but will Aurora be able to stay alive in time to find the people behind these attacks?

'Shadows from the Past' was so enjoyable to read. I loved the characters and their stories. Aurora and Jordan's love story was very sweet and I hope their story continues in the next 'Shadows' book! This book is also a lesson on forgiveness and how God is in control and nothing happens without it being His will.

If you don't particularly like suspense novels, than 'Shadows from the Past' probably isn't for you. But if you are like me and love reading suspenseful novels, then 'Shadows from the Past' is definitely for you! I loved it (as I've said already) and 100% recommend it!

A great story from a new-to-me author! I look forward to reading her next book 'Shadows of Suspicion'!
