Review: I Am the Weapon (The Unknown Assassin) by Allen Zadoff [mainstream YA]

About the book:
Previously published under the title Boy Nobody
They needed the perfect assassin.

Boy Nobody is the perennial new kid in school, the one few notice and nobody thinks much about. He shows up in a new high school in a new town under a new name, makes a few friends and doesn't stay long. Just long enough for someone to die -- of "natural causes." Mission accomplished, Boy Nobody disappears, moving on to the next target.

But when The Program assigns him to the mayor of New York City, things change. Somewhere deep inside, Boy Nobody is somebody: the kid he once was; the teen who wants normal things, like a real home and a girlfriend; a young man who wants out. And who just might want those things badly enough to sabotage The Program's mission.

In this action-packed series debut, author Allen Zadoff pens a page-turning thriller that is as thought-provoking as it is gripping, introducing an utterly original and unforgettable antihero.

Review: Double Crossed by Ally Carter

Double Crossed by Ally Carter
Disney Hyperion / 2013
FREE on Kindle right now
Find on: Amazon, Goodreads

About the book:
Macey McHenry—Glamorous society girl or spy-in-training?

W.W. Hale V—Heir to an American dynasty or master thief?

There are two sides to every coin. Whether these two can work together is a tossup.

Born into privilege, Macey and Hale are experts at mingling with the upper class. But even if they’ve never raised an eyebrow at the glitz, neither teenager has ever felt at home with the glamour.

When Macey and Hale meet at a society gala, the party takes a dangerous turn. Suddenly they’re at the center of a hostage situation, and it’s up to them to stop the thugs from becoming hostile. Will Macey’s spy skills and Hale’s con-man ways be enough to outsmart a ruthless gang? Or will they have to seek out the ultimate inside girl to help?

The worlds of Heist Society and the Gallagher Girls collide in Ally Carter’s fast-paced, high-stakes and tantalizing new story. Get a behind the scenes glimpse as Ally delivers an irresistible thriller that is full of her signature style and savvy twists.

My thoughts:

Double Crossed is the first book I've read by Ally Carter, but I've heard great things about her books and her "Heist Society" series is on my "to-read-someday" list.

I really liked the story. It was interesting, clean, and even had a little bit of mystery/intrigue. I was a little nervous at first that the story/characters wouldn't be easy to keep straight (since I haven't read the "Heist Society" and "Gallagher Girls" series), but thankfully that wasn't an issue at all!

Overall, a really good novella. It definitely makes me want to read more of Ally's books. If you enjoy clean mainstream YA novels with some spy elements, you might want to try this book. It's free on Kindle right now.
