Review: Riverbend Gap (Riverbend, #1) by Denise Hunter

About the book:
She came in search of the family she’d always wanted—and found the kind of love she’d never dared to imagine.

When Katelyn Loveland’s car veered off a winding Appalachian Mountain road, she thought she was done for. That is until Cooper Robinson, local sheriff’s deputy, came to her rescue. And though Katie narrowly escaped her brush with death, she still fell. Hard.

She wasn’t the only one. But soon Cooper learns that the woman he’s more attracted to than any he’s ever met is his brother’s new girlfriend—and therefore unquestionably off limits. Yet, despite his best efforts, Cooper and Katie can’t seem to avoid running into each other. Or ignore the undeniable chemistry between them.

As they grow closer, Katie shares the secrets of her past and the real reason she moved to their small North Carolina town. She also wins over Cooper’s welcoming and bighearted family. But they don’t know that her feelings for Cooper keep growing—all while she’s dating his brother. Soon the stakes of their emotional connection become higher than either of them could have imagined. Katie stands to lose the first family she’s ever had, and a scandal could doom Cooper’s campaign for sheriff’s office. Suddenly they find themselves on the edge of another precipice—and they’re forced to make a decision that could change their lives forever.

My thoughts:
Riverbend Gap is the first book in Hunter's Riverbend series and I really enjoyed getting to know the characters and setting. It was fascinating to learn about the trail and all the things that surrounded that. :)

The romance was a tricky one and not a favorite. I felt so badly for Gavin, because he was the one most hurt from it. It was a sticky situation and one that I didn't particularly like, but I was glad that there was a (mostly) happy ending to it all.

All in all, I enjoyed the read, but wish the romance would have been different. I'm looking forward to continuing the series soon.

My thoughts:
Red Velvet was a good read, although I found it quite sad at times. I liked the characters and thought it was written well. The lists in the book were fun and probably my favorite part. I did found a couple things silly, but overall enjoyed the story.

All in all, Red Velvet was an enjoyable read and I recommend it to anyone who enjoys clean YA stories.

Review: The Lieutenant's Bargain (Fort Reno #2) by Regina Jennings

About the book:
She Was Supposed to Be Gaining Independence.
What She Found Was Even Better . . .

Hattie Walker dreams of becoming a painter, but her parents want her to settle down. As a compromise, they give her two months to go to Denver and place her works in an exhibition. Her journey is derailed when a gunman attacks her stagecoach, leaving her to be rescued by a group of Arapaho . . . but she's too terrified to recognize them as friendly.

Confirmed bachelor Lieutenant Jack Hennessey has long worked with the tribe and is tasked with trying to convince them that the mission school at Fort Reno can help their children. When a message arrives about a recovered survivor, Jack heads out to retrieve her--and plead his case with the chief once more.

He's stunned to run into Hattie Walker, the girl who shattered his heart years ago, but quickly realizes he has a chance to impress her. When his plan gets tangled through translation, Jack and Hattie end up in a mess that puts her dreams in peril and threatens to destroy his life's work.

My thoughts:

The Lieutenant's Bargain was such a great historical romance. After reading the first book in this series, I couldn't wait to pick up this one...and it was even better than book one!

I loved the characters and how they already knew each other. The marriage and events surrounding it were fun and unique. I found the book to be a quick read, as the danger and storyline made me want to just keep reading. ;)

All in all, I loved The Lieutenant's Bargain and definitely recommend it. I plan on reading book three ASAP.

My thoughts:
Among the Innocent was a great read! I found the story gripping and difficult to put down. It was written very well and had some nice twists.

The characters were fantastic. I felt for Leah and what she went through. She had a lot of strength to be able to work this case with such bravery.

All in all, Among the Innocent was such a good read and I recommend it to fans of romantic suspense.

Review: Holding the Fort (Fort Reno #1) by Regina Jennings

About the book:
With Miss Bell as the Teacher, Everyone's Bound to Learn an Interesting Lesson

Dance hall singer Louisa Bell has always lived one step from destitution. When she loses her job at the Cat-Eye Saloon, she has nowhere else to go but to her brother, a cavalry soldier stationed in Indian Territory. But he's run afoul of his commanding officer. Unsure what she can do to help him and desperate for a job, she doesn't protest when she's mistaken for a governess at the fort. How hard can teaching really be?

Major Daniel Adams has his hands full at Fort Reno, especially raising two adolescent daughters alone. If this new governess doesn't work out, his mother-in-law insists she'll raise the girls herself--far away from the fort. Miss Bell bears little resemblance to Daniel's notion of a governess--they're not supposed to be so blamed pretty--but he finds himself turning a blind eye to her unconventional methods. Louisa has never faced so important a performance. Can she keep her act together long enough to help her brother and to secure the respectable future she's sought for so long?

My thoughts:

Holding the Fort is the first book in Jennings' Fort Reno series and it was a wonderful story. It's been a while since I've read a book by Regina Jennings, but I was pretty sure I would enjoy this book before picking it up...and I was right.

The characters were great and the romance was well done. I look forward to reading the next book and getting to read more about these characters.

All in all, Holding the Fort was worth the read and I recommend it to fans of historical romance.

Review: Sunburst by Susan May Warren

About the book:
When former Navy SEAL and lifelong bachelor Ranger Kingston is called upon to take part in a rescue mission to save his brother Colt from terrorists in Nigeria, he is shocked to find among the hostages a woman he could never forget.

Noemi Sutton was attempting to return a young girl to her family in Boko Haram territory when she and the girl found themselves taken hostage, along with several others. And while Ranger Kingston may be able to get the hostages away from their captors, he'll need Noemi's help if he ever hopes to get out of Nigeria alive.

Her solution? Pose as husband and wife. But when her uncle discovers the union, he insists on a traditional Nigerian wedding--which would bind Noemi to a man destined to break her heart. Worse, the trouble they're fleeing has found them--again. It's clear anyone around Noemi is bound to be caught in the cross fire. Including her potential new husband.

She'll need to figure out a way to leave the man she loves if she wants to save his life.

My thoughts:

Sunburst is the second book in Warren's Sky King Ranch series and I loved reading the Kingston brothers' new story. It was a great one and had some intense moments...I couldn't read fast enough.

The romance was good, although a little too intense at times for my personal preference. I loved how it was a second chance romance, though. :)

The ending was great and had another cliffhanger, so I'm even more eager to read Sundown as soon as I can. I recommend Sunburst, but encourage you to read Sunrise first.
