Unwittingly, she and her weak fiancé become entangled in the hostility between the Pirate Earl and his enemy, while even more dangerous forces are rising up to destroy them all.

MaryLu Tyndall knows how to write great pirate novels! I haven't read the first three books in her "
Legacy of the King's Pirates" series, but I still greatly enjoyed "The Ransom". I loved how the main character, Alex, had two personas - one the acclaimed "Pirate Earl", the other gentlemanly Lord Munthrope. This resulted in some humorous scenes, since Juliana didn't know they were the same man.
I really enjoyed the story. It had adventure, suspense, romance, and a good message. The ending was very good and makes me curious about how things will continue.
There were a few things I didn't care for in the story - chiefly the times curse words were said ("D" and "H"). It wasn't much, but I would have preferred it to have just said "he cursed" or something.
Overall, though, a really good read! I look forward to reading more of Tyndall's novels and recommend "The Ransom" to mature readers who enjoy adventurous pirate stories. :)
